Sascha Ring is the Berliner behind Apparat, creating amazing electronic sounds for both the dancefloor and the head. Apparat has quickly become one of my favourite producers as he blends gorgeous melodic hooks with razor sharp pounding beats that only a German could!
He has previously released tracks on his Shitkatapult label, has performed a Peel Session and released it as the Silizium EP in 2005, and also recorded the excellent album Moderat along with fellow knob twiddler Modeselektor. His DJ Kicks! mix album from 2010 is on constant repeat along with James Holden’s effort- kind of complimentary pieces. It can be challenging listening, but worth it if you take the time to let the sounds to get into your mind.
This tracks ‘Black Water’ is a much more laid back affair, melding a white noise / choral background to Sacha’s own vocals, which play out over a shoe-gazing style melodic song that wouldn’t be out of place in the mushy part of an American indie film. It’s very introspective which is reminiscent of Ulrich Schnauss and the lush sounds he creates that echo, drift and overlap into each other.
It’s short but sweet.
New album “The Devil’s Walk” will be out in September on Mute Records.
